On November 24th at the DR (Danish Broadcasting Corporation) Studio 3 singer/songwriter Jonas Villumsen and Søren Gemmer recorded a song for the ‘Vinyl 2014’ project organized by ‘Hygge Factory’.

The organization seeks to challenge young people (age 13 to 20) to experiment with art on a professional level, and the Vinyl 2014 project makes Danish young song writers and asylum seekers come together in the process of song writing.

Jonas Villumsen was asked to record the song ‘Midt I København’ (‘In The Center of Copenhagen’), written by Erol, an asylum seeker who has been denied entry to Denmark and who, along with his family, is set to be sent out of Denmark in mid-December, 2013. His mother, however, is suffering heavily from depression and other mental illnesses and is heavily dependent upon medication, that the family will most likely not be able to find nor afford in their home country of Kosovo/Serbia.

The lyrics written by Erol, when heard in the light of his situation, is a heartbreaking display of hope as well as dispair, and a child’s love of his mother.

The song will be released on Vinyl 2014: Midt I København on January 31st, 2014 at a special event at Pumpehuset, CPH. It features Søren Gemmer on the Wurlitzer and  Prophet-600. The song was featured in the radio program Tværs on DR P3 in which Erol tells his story.
